Migrants were today seen holding on to the undercarriage of lorries queuing up outside Calais, in a desperate attempt to take advantage of strike chaos and smuggle themselves into Britain.
Mayhem at the French port has continued for a second day, leading to the deployment of extra riot police to control both would-be migrants and the wildcat strikers who shut down cross-Channel services yesterday.
Eurostar trains started running again this morning but are 'very, very, very full' as the company tries to clear the backlog of passengers whose journeys were cancelled.
While ferry services are now operating as normal, the gridlock outside Calais meant that migrants were able to try and break into lorries for a second day.
Eurotunnel freight trains are being subjected to extra checks to ensure that lorry drivers - who say migrants are getting bolder with their efforts - are not inadvertently carrying stowaways in their vehicles.
More resources will be put into screening arrivals at Dover, immigration minister James Brokenshire has said, adding that extra French police officers are being deployed in Calais to deal with the problem.
