A dog lover whose pet died after being savaged by three devil dogs has relived the horror attack which left him with more than 100 wounds.
Trevor Howard had part of his right ear ripped off and flesh torn from his hands and arms as he tried to protect his beloved springer spaniel Jess.
Three snarling mastiffs pounced on him as he lay on top of his pet in a bid to stop them killing her.
Trevor was walking in fields with his wife Carol, 59, and Jess when the bullmastiff and two French mastiffs attacked
Trevor, 62, said: “I don’t have to close my eyes – I still see the whole thing. We were walking when I heard a sound like the baying of hounds and they came round the corner.
"I picked Jess up and leaned forward, pressing her between my stomach and thighs, but her rump and head stuck out.
“The more I bent over her, the more they ripped at me. I didn’t feel the pain. I was just sickened to see the terror in the face of our dog. My wife was bitten a couple of times.
“Three young lads in hoodies pulled the dogs off us. I was very lucky but we will never have another dog.”
Jess suffered appalling injuries in the attack and had to be put down six days after the incident last April.
Yvonne Singh had let the dogs out of her home in Fordhouses, West Mids, moments earlier and they escaped through an open garden gate.
At Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday, Singh admitted being in charge of dogs that were dangerously out of control.
The jobless mother-of-three was given a four-month suspended prison sentence, ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and banned from keeping dogs for seven years.
She was told to pay Trevor £500
