A policeman dragged into a woods by three thugs 'trying to kill him' was saved by his trusty police dog.
Todd Frazier was investigating a suspicious looking parked car when he was ambushed and attacked by the trio.
The sheriff deputy suffered a gash on his forehead and multiple bodily injuries when he was being dragged towards a wooded area, police claimed.
Chief deputy Don Bass told the Clarion-Ledger: "They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods."
But while he was being carried away, he managed to break one hand free to press the button that opened his car door to release his police dog Lucas.
Only two police cars in the town have the specially-designed quick release hatch, which is designed to speed up canine back-up support.
Thankfully, the heroic pooch realised its owner was under attack and it bit one of the assailants and charged at another, saving the officer's life.
The incident happened a week last Monday in Hancock County, US.
Deputy Frazier was taken to hospital for minor injuries and was later released.
Chief deputy Don added: "The main thing for anybody is to go home safe, we want you to go home at night.
"But it could happen to any one of them, the threat is here and the possibility is real."
