British Engineer Killed Himself Over Plane Crash

British Engineer Killed Himself Over Plane Crash
A British aircraft engineer took his own life over an "irrational" fear he was to blame for the AirAsia plane crash that killed 162 people.
Gavin Price Jones, 37, had become “obsessed” with the idea he was responsible for the crash involving an Airbus A320 aircraft - the same model he worked on.

All passengers and crew on board flight QZ8501 were killed when the plane crashed into the Java Sea during bad weather in December last year.
Mr Jones' wife, Louise told an inquest his obsession with thinking he was to blame "drove him mad" despite all attempts by family members and colleagues to convince him otherwise.
She said that combined with the death of his father six years ago, her husband spiralled into depression.
She found him hanging at their home at Saltney, on the border between and England and Wales near Chester, on January 20 this year. A note had been left nearby.
Giving evidence at the inquest, held at West Cheshire Magistrates Court, Mrs Jones said: “The AirAsia flight that came down just after Christmas was an Airbus A320, which is what he works on.
"He thought he was to blame for that aircraft going down.
“These thoughts drove him mad. He was obsessed.”
She said her husband would draw technical pictures to demonstrate how he was to blame for the air crash.
She arranged for him to speak to the head of quality and safety at work, who attempted to reassure Mr Jones he was not at fault but to no avail.
“It got steadily worse over time,” she said.
“It was all he thought about.”
