A judge has sparked outrage after referring to a teacher's sex affair with a 17-year-old pupil as 'candy'.
Judge Garrett D. Page was sentencing teacher Erica Ginnetti, 35, for the sexual assault of the 17-year-old boy when he came out with the remark.
Referring to their illicit relationship he told his court: "That's like candy to a young man".
Ginnetti was sentenced to 30 days behind bars after she admitted institutional sexual assault and disseminating sexually explicit materials to a minor.
The sentence was well below the maximum sentence for the two crimes of between seven and 14 years in prison.
Montgomery County Court in Philadelphia was told how the married mum-of-three began flirting with the student at a school dance in May 2013 and then exchanged messages, photos and videos on a daily basis over their mobile phones.
The pair first had sex on an industrial estate in Ginnetti's car two months later after meeting at a nearby Starbucks.
She was arrested after a tip-off to police when students were heard discussing X-rated photos they had seen of the maths teacher.
The affair was said to have left the teenager 'withdrawn' and suffering with his school work.
Sentencing Ginnetti, Judge Page said the sexual relationship had been like "candy" to the teenage boy - the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
He said: "That's candy to a young man.
"One bad day because of sexual hunger has resulted in all this avalanche of harm.
"I don't believe you're a bad human being. You did a bad act, so I have to punish you."
Ginnetti was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the next 25 years.
