Witnesses claim the child’s mother, 22-year-old Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, stopped her car before dousing the infant in a flammable liquid and setting it on fire.
Emergency services were first alerted to a “commotion” inside a property by residents in the area before making the horrific discovery.
Medics rushed to the scene in Pemberton Township, New Jersey, on Friday night and airlifted the young child to hospital.
However the baby was pronounced dead shortly after.
Neighbor Dave Joseph, 45, told Bucks County Courier Times the woman said she was burning dog feces and said she had a calm demeanor.
Mr Joseph's wife then notice what was really going on and screamed.
The woman then tried to flee but residents stopped her.
He said: "It was just mind-boggling. It was a nightmare even if you have a strong heart. Hopefully she'll pay for it."
Dorvilier was taken into custody at the scene of the crime and held on $500,000 bail.
An autopsy on the baby is set to be carried out by the Burlington County Medical Examiner.
