Generator Fumes kill boy, 15 hospitalised

A six-year-old boy was reported dead while doctors are now battling to save the lives of 15 others as a result of generator fume they inhaled during a vigil in Aba, Abia State.

The victims , all natives of Ututu in Arochukwu Local Government of the state were said to be conducting an inter-denominational all night prayer Friday at the Young Peoples Christian Fellowship at No. 5 Eziukwu road, Aba.

They were said to have left the generating set on at the corridor after the programme and slept off only to be discovered unconscious the next day but before rescue could come their way, the little boy had died.


According to reports, the tragedy was discovered when a relation to one of the victims called her but the phone rang out without any response.

Worried by the development, he decided to come to the warehouse – turned church, venue of the vigil only to see that all the worshipers were unconscious.

Area Commander, Aba, ACP Peter Wagbara, who confirmed the incident said the victims had been rushed to a hospital.

In an interview with SUNDAY PUNCH, the Secretary of Ministers from Arochukwu, Dr. Philip Richard, wo is a Senior Pastor, Word Alife Assembly, Aba , described the incident as very unfortunate, but said the victims were responding to treatment.
